Day 2 was long for Rusty, but so much easier than yesterday! Sunny and dry, fewer tough grades, and less overheating! Still lots of road construction tho.
Today the caravan travelled in two parts. Rusty, driven by Kirk, traveled with Wendy who drove the truck and trailer. Sly, Fly, and the Sentinel (Forrest) drove separately. We all met up in Missouri and will be traveling together tomorrow.
Sly, Fly, and the Sentinel ran a few errands. Sly was sweating the fact that our trike cover was flapping and shredding and the net was breaking. We bought an additional net and that has improved matters immeasurably. The trike tray still bottoms out frequently and Fly and the Sentinel have to carry it over a lot of the entrances which is awful. Calgon, who has been following our progress from home, suggested a part that may help so we'll try that tomorrow.

Today we started by enjoying the beautiful Lexington, Kentucky horse country:

Passing Louisville, Forrest was reminded of the time when, as a boy, his dad took him on an impromptu road trip to the Louisville Slugger Bat Factory to replace his broken baseball bat. Awww! He still has the bat.
Next, the expanses of farm country in Indiana and Illinois. It was a perfect day for driving.

We got a quick glimpse of the bigger-than-you're-expecting-it-to-be St Louis arch as we skirted downtown and the waterfront. Lovely! Let's go back there!! (No pictures, 'cause two hands on the wheel, please!) We hit St Louis just at rush hour. It's good to be reminded every once in a while what rush hour traffic looks like in a major metropolitan area. We are spoiled in Charlottesville!
We rolled into Missouri just in time for a lovely sunset.
Rusty, Kirk, Wendy, and the truck and trailer arrived in Missouri at about 11:30 pm. Long day but so much easier than yesterday!
More reports tomorrow!
