Day 5: 19 Hours Driving!

Kirk and Wendy got on the road at 4:00am to get to the Rockies before the weather got hot. Turns out the Rockies aren't actually a thing that far north, so Rusty was west of them by 10:00 am! Fantastic!!! So Kirk and Wendy decided to push on past our scheduled sleepover in Rock Springs, Wyoming and continue to Wells, Nevada. Then we could go to Reno the next day (skipping our scheduled overnight in Elko, Nevada) and make up the day we lost at the beginning.

Sly/Fly, The Sentinel and Mr. Martini started later, close to 9am, and stopped by the Sidney, Nevada Pony Express memorial on the way out.

Wyoming was gorgeous. We saw antelopes and marveled at the sky, watching the storms dance across the prairie. Salt Lake City was impressive - luckily it was Sunday so no rush hour.

Mr. Martini peeled off just outside Salt Lake City since he'd already been traveling for seven days. The Sentinel, who was driving the Sly/Fly-Mobile, agreed to take the rest of us to Wells as well.

Sly/Fly/Sentinel caught up with Rusty (Kirk) and the truck/trailer (Wendy) at the Great Salt Lake for a short breather and we pressed ahead. We even saw another art car, clearly on its way to Black Rock City too! Pirate ship, we thinks.

Problem was it was still a pretty long way to Wells, we were pushing the daylight, and there was a long grade that we weren't expecting. We made it, but well after dark - 9:30 Pacific time but 12:30 body time. Kirk and Wendy had been driving for 19 hours! Ouch!

But we made up the lost day, and ideally we will be in Reno tomorrow. More updates then.
